On June 19 Emomali Rakhmon, President of Tajikistan, received William Phellon, US Commander-in-Chief.
In the course of the meeting current issues concerning outlooks for multilateral cooperation between the USA and Tajikistan were discussed.
“Developing reciprocal cooperation with the USA is one of the main trend of our foreign policy”, declared Emomali Rakhmon during the meeting.
The interlocutors expressed their satisfaction with the current level of bilateral cooperation implying cooperation between departments of defense of the countries and confirmed their intention to develop and consolidate the reciprocal cooperation.
Also exchange of views on bilateral economical cooperation took place. The US representative agreed that proper distribution of Tajik water resources met interests of all the Central Asian countries.
Emomali Rakhmon expressed his gratitude to Mr. Phellon for significant assistance rendered to Tajikistan.
Mr. Phellon in his turn appreciated the role of Tajikistan in international struggle with terrorism and expressed gratitude for the assistance rendered to antiterrorist forces in Afghanistan.
In conclusion the interlocutors exchanged their views on the current state of affairs in Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran and discussed issues dealing with regional security.
The interlocutors expressed their satisfaction with negotiations started between US and Iranian ambassadors, who spoke for peaceful settlement of any conflict.
